Weekly Objectives:

I will post learning objectives each week. Most weeks will be different, but some content may stretch over the course of many weeks. I will also be sure to let you know about any upcoming tests as well and provide strategies for you to help your child study at home.

English Language Arts: Students will...

  • Use a text to ask and answer questions

  • practice editing skills

  • write summaries using evidence found in a text

Math: Students will...

  • take the Unit 8 Cumulative test on Tuesday. We will finish reviewing on Monday.

Social Studies: Students will...

  • gain a deeper understanding of the public issue by analyzing visual sources of information.

Writing: Students will...

  • continue to learn about the different elements and kinds of poetry.

  • create poetry slideshow to present for Poetry Night.

  • finish poetry books

  • continue to study author's point of view

Spelling Words: Week 30- Test will be Friday.

A Spelling Activity Packet will be sent home each Monday. This packet provides multiple ways in which your child can practice their words throughout the week. Return what has been completed on Friday.

Students will also be given more practice on spelling words during Writer's Workshop. We will focus on the patterns so that students aren't simply memorizing the words, but are understanding the spelling patterns so that they can apply those skills to other words they encounter.

Homework Folder

Each student will receive a yellow homework folder. This will be brought home every day. In the left pocket will be a calendar where students will write down their homework daily. They will also write down one thing that they learned each day. Important dates and reminders will also be on this calendar, so please check the folder on a regular basis.

Homework: 40 minutes or less

Math-

Students will bring home one Math sheet per night which corresponds with what was taught that day. For example, if we completed Unit 2 Session 3, their homework sheet will say "2.3" at the top. If for some reason we did not finish the lesson (special presentation, field trip, etc), a different Math sheet will come home in its place.

Reading Calendar-

  • Students are expected to read 20 minutes each night.

  • On the Reading Calendar, students should write the title of the book they read each night.

  • Parents sign the calendar at the end of each month and return to school

Weekly Reading Response Homework- Writing about reading increases comprehension:

  • Students will also bring home a Weekly Reading Response packet each Monday.

  • After reading for 20 minutes, students should write a response in the packet under the correct day.
